A Filmmaker Resolution this 2021

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

The year 2021 has just began. It seems like nothing has really change for me in the past year except for the calendar year itself. The pandemic is still a global threat, we’re still at home, and they are many events and problems surrounding our world. As the COVID-19 exists in 2021, many establishments such as cinemas are left broke. Luckily, new ways and platforms have been discovered to continue screening films, organizing online festivals, and teaching insights on the industry in this digital age.

When the COVID-19 spreads globally, many artists like me who requires outdoor work are devastated. I promised myself last year that I’m going to make films but unfortunately, the laziness of being at home stops me from doing so. Last year, productivity in this pandemic is a worse problem for me. I can barely write anything for myself. I just want to sleep, look at my phone, sleep again, and hope that this pandemic is over.

As I scroll through my daily routine in Social Media, I received an invitation from a friend. It was an invitation for a Facebook group full of renowned filmmakers. I was so excited being there. I met a lot of Directors, Editors, Artists, Cinematographers and learned a lot from them through an online ZOOM meeting every Sunday. After that, my whole world is changed. It motivated me from doing my passion. This is just what I needed to clear this gloomy atmosphere in my head.

I figured that I’m basically like any other artists out there: we’re desperate for inspirations and motivation; we’re desperate to learn something new that relates to our passion. And then it hit me, what if I do the same for any other artists out there? When me and

my friends talked online it is always about sadness or heartbreak in this pandemic; we’re being unmotivated to do our art. Heck, we even planned to art collaborate but obviously, it didn’t happen. But what if we help each other out? What if we talk about what we love which is art?

That is why this year, I want to help other artists as possible. I want to teach other filmmakers what I’ve learned in these past few months. I want to introduce filmmakers to directors and other members of the industry. Making exhibits, talking to fellow artists, watch parties and discussion, and collaboration, whatever it is to make a community to inspire fellow artists. I want them to feel that even if this pandemic exists, we can still be our own selves: as artists.

The pandemic took so much of our plans and time. As day passed, we must seize the moment. We must find ways to innovate our situation to avoid boring ourselves. We may not know when this pandemic ends, but at least by doing what we love reassures our potential as an artist.
